- Is the tide turning against Chavez in the hemisphere?
Frida Ghitis has a very interesting article in the Miami Herald questioning if the tide might be starting to turn in Latin America away from their disaster foray into socialism under the tutelage of Hugo Chavez and more to a social-democratic model. While the authors of this blog may not agree with the principles of the social-democratic model, the Brazil and Chile model are light years ahead of the Bolivia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Honduras model. With the recent defeat of Fernandez in the congressional election in Argentina, the successful coup (let’s hope it stays successful and Obama and Clinton don’t do something tragic) in Honduras, break away regions of Bolivia, and revolt brewing in Nicaragua over Ortega’s push for unlimited rule, let’s hope that she is right. I tend to think it will take at least another 10 years and brave leadership in the U.S. to erase what has been a disastrous last 10 years, where the U.S. has given autonomy to socialist dictators in our hemisphere.
